    Space update

I haven't touch my space for more than half year now. Since I finished school, and started a new job in Boston, I think I should stop being lazy, and do some catch up work. I posted many new photos today: a summary of my activities in past 6 months.
I work for a software company called MathWorks, which is well-known in the engineering field for its matrix-based computing software Matlab:
I have just finished my first week at MathWorks. Since I am in training stage, my "work" is pretty relaxed so far. However, weekend is still the best part of my life. Today's weather is excellent: sunny but cool. I went for a hike around a lake in Whitehall State Park, which is about 30 minutes from my apartment.  The whole trip took 3 hours and 15 mintues, and I was so tired after I finished. You can see the photos of this park in my space.

    music update

We recorded this song called "Olive Tree" at Fiddler's house yesterday.  Due to limited human resource (3 people), we modified the original song to a simple arrangement with Evelyn on the vocal, Fiddler on the guitar, and myself on the flute.  That was our first day of practice, not bad for the first trial, I think.

    Digital piano

I got this new digital piano (Casio PX110) for more than two weeks now, but today I finally got the correct stand for it.  We got the stand for an older model (Casio PX100) last time, and it didn't fit.  It took us about 30 minutes to figure out the stand we had is not the right one: we thought we were just so stupid that we can't do simple assemble.  Today we finally have time to go to Guitar Center and replace the stand.  The piano looks much nicer on the new stand.
This is probably the cheapest weighted hammer-action digital piano I can find.  It offers limited tones but with great quality.

    End of semester

Time flies.  It has been a year since I join the Signal and Image Processing Lab, it is amazing how much one can learn by doing research.  This is much more interesting than lectures, plus your schedule is very flexible.  You can come and go as you please as long as you finish your work on time.  You can even work at home if you like.  But I found I work more effectively in the lab, away from all the distractions.
The semester is over, for undergraduate, that is.  There is no holiday for students who are doing the research. :(  I will also take summer class as well.  It is going to be a busy summer.
As usual, we have an end of semester dinner a few days ago.  We do this every semester so the people who work in the lab can actually talk to each other.  Just kidding.  But everyone is busy in the lab, and we really don't talk much about things outside our research area.
There is a 2 weeks period between spring semester and summer semester, and I was going to have a break.  My family wants to go to Alaska for a week, but we cound't book the any cruise package in May, so now the trip is delayed to Aug.  still three months away, I can't wait...
Back to reality, I still have so much to do: Dr. K (my advisor) wants me to finish the implementation within a month.  I doubt that's going to happen, but I will give my best.

    photo update

I finally had some time to go through all the photos I took in China last summer, and post them on the space.  There are also many photos from my friend's wedding last weekend.  Congratulations, Laurel and Josh!

a little music for my space

This song is my first attempt to record my own version of The Briar and The Rose (by Tom Waits).  The Briar and The Rose is a tale that has been told in Ireland for centuries, about a young woman named Mairéad, and her lover, Séamus.  I don't know much about the story, but I enjoy the music.
